International Women's Day is celebrated around the world on March 8 and aims to remember and positively mark women's fight for gender equality. Interestingly, the first time this day was celebrated was in May 1909, in the United States of America, still as a local date and not an international one, despite being commonly associated with a fire in a textile factory in New York City.
Nowadays, the panorama can be quite different from what was experienced a few years ago, although we can still find some inequalities between women and men, particularly in the job market, for example. However, there are already some good examples of women who have succeeded (and continue to thrive!) in their professional areas and who stand out, making female empowerment something increasingly real. With the proliferation of social networks and technologies, we now have many areas where we can see great cases of female success. We can talk, in particular, about the world of television, Instagram and YouTube, for example, where there are women with huge communities of followers and where they can transmit their ideas and points view in a credible way. Also in other areas, women are leading the way and are increasingly visible in medicine - we are talking about medicine, physics or chemistry, for example.
There are many tributes to women that are often made on this day. In the job market, for example, many companies offer roses to all employees. Today is also almost an "official day" to dine out, in a more intimate and romantic environment. There are also many brands that associate themselves with social causes related to the feminine universe and take advantage of this day to pass on their messages.
