The Selfie You Won't Want to Take

Summer is over, but we can take a vacation at any time of the year and it's still true that we all like to go and take that typical selfie of the place we went. we travel. Who doesn't like taking pictures with an elephant or taking a selfie with a snake when we go to a place that offers this experience?

Well, it is in this sense that Louis' critical lens comes to warn us.

Suffering for pure entertainment is the starting point of the series' theme ?life in chains? signed by British photographer Louis Supple. With the series, the photographer encourages reflection on the industry that explores wildlife tourism (or that was once wild?), which had never before been so sought after.

Supple points out that what happens is that we observea life reduced to chains just so the tourist can touch, when he says that he cannot get out of his mind the crocodile inside a concrete cage, with a tail that never developed, completely deformed (due to the tiny space where it was located), image you found during a visit to one of the places with an animal-related tourist offer

But exploitation scenarios are even worse in places that offer elephant rides, the possibility of feeding tigers and watching them do tricks, where the animals are < /span>used and devoid of any dignity and respect, in that survive under barbaric conditions and completely against their natural cycle.

The true cost of the wild tourism industry is not reflected in the price of the ticket for the photo with the monkey who, unknown to us, is on substances that make him sleep. It reflects on the daily limitations of species that, instead of protecting (yes, because many of the animals are obtained through the trafficking of endangered species) we subject to pure suffering and a life dedicated to human satisfaction.

Although it is a reality that is not so present in Western Europe, being predominantly prevalent in Asian countries, it is still a situation that is getting worse. Even though we are not visually exposed, it does not mean that we do not contribute to the problem ? for this reason, we already see organizations that show concern regarding this scourge ? if you search on Instagram, for example, #tigerselfie or #koalaselfie, you will get a warning that you are searching for a hashtag that may be associated with behavior that is harmful to animals or the environment

The fault lies not only with those who carry out this exploitation, because these cruel images result from our demand for this type of services. As long as we decide to embark on this type of experience, they will continue to be offered. Therefore, it is time for each of us to take responsibility for what we pay for.

Go green or go home.
