iPhone 8 VS iPhone X

iPhone 8 VS iPhone X

Launched at the same event, the iPhone 8 and iPhone X are very different cell phones, especially on the outside. Let's see how they differ and the characteristics they share.

Screen ? Past VS Future

The most obvious difference between these two models is what we first see when we look at both ? their display. The iPhone As for sizes, the iPhone X is 5.8 inches, thanks to its bezelless design, while the iPhone 8 is 4.7.

Design ? Bulky VS Compact

When comparing just the size of the screens of both devices, we could make the mistake of assuming that the iPhone X is gigantic. However, the truth is that one of the strengths of this model is how compact it is, measuring 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm and a mere 174g, compared to the 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm and 148g of the iPhone 8. Numbers aside, the iPhone X is slightly taller than its opponent, but in terms of width and thickness, both are practically the same.

An also quite obvious feature of the iPhone X is the wide notch at the top, which houses its front camera, which can be a constraint when viewing photos or full-screen videos. The presence of this notch, in addition to making the most of the screen, is also due to the absence of a Home button on the iPhone X, and the consequent lack of unlocking via fingerprint. On the other hand, the iPhone 8 also has the traditional home button and fingerprint unlocking, something that some users may find advantageous.

However, not everything is different in this clash of titans, and the iPhone X and iPhone 8 share a glass back that allows wireless charging, a resistance IP67 water and dust resistant and rigid durability aluminum in its chassis.

Finally, the iPhone X is available in silver and space gray and the iPhone 8

adds gold to these options.

Performance ? Two Missiles

Despite their differences on the outside, when we see what the iPhone X and iPhone 8 have ?under the hood?, there are no major differences. Both offer a 6-core A11 Bionic processor and a 6-core GPU, which translates into incredible processing and graphics. The iPhone X has 3GB of RAM, while the iPhone 8 has 2GB. However, this 1GB difference turns out to be insignificant, as the iPhone 8 has a lower resolution screen and a single camera.

Cameras ? Are two better than one?

Another key difference between these two devices is their cameras. Like the iPhone 8 Plus (the 8's stronger brother), the iPhone X has a 12 megapixel telephoto lens that allows for 2x optical zoom and Portrait Mode.

However, as for primary cameras, the iPhone X and iPhone 8 share a 12-megapixel wide-angle rear camera with f/1.8 aperture and OIS ( image stabilization) and a 7 megapixel front camera, f/2.2 aperture and no OIS.

Thus, the iPhone 8 is at par with the iPhone X, except for the possibility of 2x optical zoom and Portrait Mode.

Drums ? The X Factor

Contrary to all the improvements made, the iPhone 8 has one major flaw ? its autonomy. Apple itself admitted that between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 there was no tangible improvement in the autonomy of the devices. The story changes when we look at the iPhone X which, despite not presenting a significant improvement, offers two more hours of battery life than its predecessor iPhone 7, according to Apple.

Thus, the iPhone X and iPhone 8 promise up to 21 hours of wireless calls (14 for the iPhone 8), up to 12 hours of internet use, up to 13 hours of video playback, up to 60 hours of audio playback (40 for iPhone 8) and fast charging to 50% in just 30 minutes.

Moral of the Story

Well, the truth is that 2017 remained in the world's memory as the year of the iPhone X and not as the year of the iPhone 8. The iPhone X was revolutionary in its design and was the starting point for the models that later came and will come in the coming years. That being said, the iPhone 8 can be considered as the smartest purchase. For around ?300 less, the user will have a cell phone with the specifications, performance and camera of the iPhone X. On the other hand, it will not have Face ID, the larger display and greater capabilities.

photographic. In the end, it's all a matter of preferences.
