How to Make a Secure Backup of an iPhone

Although everyone knows it's important, many people don't do it, and by the time there's a problem, it may already be too late.

We are, obviously, talking about backups or backupsof the iPhone. A process that in the past could be a little time-consuming and complicated, but has now become very easy and guarantees that in the event of damage, loss, theft or any other circumstance, your data will always be safe.

Today, making a backup of an iPhone is so easy that it can even be done automatically on a daily basis, without you need to do nothing.

Do you want to know how? We explain the two "official" methods below:

1. Back up your iPhone from iTunes

This is the original method and is still in force today. It is a slightly more manual procedure, although, as we will see below, there are some steps that can be simplified so that making a backup is a less costly process.

To make a backup with iTunes, you need to do the following:

  1. Connect iPhone to a computer or PC with the latest version of iTunes installed.
  2. Select the icon that identifies the iPhone in iTunes.
  3. Click Back Up Now (iTunes will ask you to select whether you want to back up to your computer or to iCloud)

After these three steps, the computer will start the backup and, after a few minutes, will inform you that it is complete. The files will be safe on your computer and if you can't use it, you can make a copy on another iPhone or your own.

As we said before, there are some aspects that can be simplified and one of them is the fact that it is not necessary to connect the iPhone to the computer with a USB cable. To do this, simply follow the two steps above and in step three activate the box: "Sync with this iPhone via WiFi".

This way, you can make backups simply by keeping your PC or Mac and iPhone connected to the same wireless network and forget about cables.

2. Automatically back up iPhone to iCloud

This is our favorite method because it can be 100% automated and thus prevents you from forgetting to make a backup, always keeping your data safe.

To activate automatic iCloud backups, you must do the following:

  1. Access the iPhone's Settingsapp
  2. Select the first option in the menu, which has the name of your iCloud account
  3. Choose the optioniCloudand then Backup
  4. Enable the iCloud Backup option and optionally click Back Up Nowto start the process

From that moment on, whenever you charge your iPhone and it is connected to a WiFi network, it will automatically back up to Apple's servers. Isn't it incredible? You can forget the "traditional" way of backing up your iPhone.

The disadvantage of this method is that the 5 GB of storage space that Apple offers for free in iCloud is not always enough.

Depending on the amount of data stored on your device, you may have to buy more storage space, and fortunately the price is quite affordable, considering the service offered (for example, 50GB costs ?0.99 per month or 200GB for ?2.99).

Now you no longer have an excuse for not keeping your data safe and backing up your iPhone regularly.
