Which devices are compatible with the new iOS/iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma, and watchOS 10?

With the launch of new versions of Apple's operating systems, namely iOS/iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma and watchOS 10, Apple device users want to know which models will be compatible with the aforementioned systems. If this is also your case, find out in the paragraphs below if your device is part of the official list released by the Cupertino company.

iPhone models compatible with iOS 17

  • iPhone 14 and 14 Plus;
  • iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max;
  • iPhone SE (3rd generation);
  • iPhone 13 and 13 Mini;
  • iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max;
  • iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini;
  • iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max;
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation);
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max;
  • iPhone XR;
  • iPhone XS and XS Max.

The list released by Apple makes it clear that iPhones launched in 2017 (iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X) lose support for the new software. This is because the new version of the operating system requires the A12 Bionic processor or higher. Therefore, iOS 17 can only be installed on iPhones from 2018 (XS and XR) or newer.

iPad models compatible with iPadOS 17

Like iOS 17, iPadOS 17 is now available in beta for developers to test. Apple revealed which models will be compatible with this new version, which will only arrive in the fall. These are the models that support the update:

  • iPad Air 3rd generation or later;
  • iPad 6th generation or later;
  • iPad mini 5th generation or later;
  • iPad Pro 2nd generation or later.

In the case of tablets, there are three models that are left out and will not receive iPadOS 17 in the fall. We are referring to the 5th generation iPad, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro 1st generation and 12.9-inch iPad Pro 1st generation.

If you are not a programmer, you will have to wait until autumn for the final version of these two operating systems. If you don't want to wait, you can try the updates in July, when Apple will make the beta versions available to the general public.

Macs compatible with macOS Sonoma

Regarding the compatibility of macOS Sonoma on the brand's computers, Apple has made the following list of devices available:

  • MacBook Pro (2018 or later);
  • MacBook Air (2018 or later);
  • iMac (2019 or later);
  • iMac Pro (2017);
  • Mac mini (2018 or later);
  • Mac Studio (2022 or later);
  • Mac Pro (2019 or later).

Apple Watch models compatible with watchOS 10

Finally, we also share the list of smartwatches that are compatible with watchOS 10. These devices will be able to run new features and display the latest watch faces that Apple included in the latest version of the operating system.

The list of compatible watches is made up of:

  • Apple Watch Series 4;
  • Apple Watch Series 5;
  • Apple Watch SE (1st and 2nd generations);
  • Apple Watch Series 6;

  • Apple Watch Series 8;
  • Apple Watch Ultra.

Although there are devices that lose support for the latest versions of operating systems, Apple continues to be one of the companies that guarantees software compatibility for the longest time.

If you still don't know what's new in each of these updates, you can take a look at our dedicated article. In it we cover the main changes made by the manufacturer, as well as the new features present.

Although the updates will not be released at the same time, we can expect these versions to reach the respective devices only in the fall of this year.
