How to Erase Information from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

After some time of use, many operating system updates and, if you're like me, a few beta installations, your iPhone may start to get ?tired? of this life. So, I recommend that you do a reset every now and then, thus cleaning up any errors or problems you may have.

How to delete information from iPhone, iPad, iPod touch on iOS

  1. Goto Settings > General > Reset.

Then click on ?Delete content and settings?.

  1. If prompted, enter your Apple ID code and/or password.
  2. Wait until the device is erased.

Depending on the device, it may take a few minutes to completely erase the data. When finished, you will see the same boot menu as when you first turned on your device.

How to delete information from iPhone, iPad, iPod touch with iTunes

  1. This option allows you to do what we typically call a ?clean install? as iTunes will re-download the complete operating system to install on the device.
  2. Opens iTunes on your Mac or PC.
  3. Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your computer with a lightning cable.
  4. If a message appears asking for your device code or asking if you can ?Trust this computer,? follow the steps on the screen.
  5. Select your device when it appears in iTunes. If your device stops responding or won't turn on, make sure your iOS device is jailbroken and that you have the latest version of iTunes.
  1. On the Summary screen, click Restore [device].

  1. Click Restore again to confirm. iTunes will then erase all content on your device and install the latest available version of iOS.
  1. The device restarts after restoring to factory settings. Now you can configure it as if it were a new device.
